Authors in the News: Naomi Schaefer Riley on Politicized Professors

In his essays, videos, and his contribution to the book, New Threats contributor Greg Lukianoff frequently draws attention the lack of freedom on campus for students to express their personal political views. In a recent Washington Post opinion piece, his fellow contributor, Naomi Schaefer Riley, turns her attention to other side of the equation: the unchecked freedom for professors to express their political views in the classroom and beyond.

Are there different sets of expectations and responsibilities depending upon whether one is facing the lectern or standing behind it?

In her article, Naomi Schaefer Riley doesn't necessarily go so far as to call professors who use their teaching posts to advance political ends threats to freedom, but she does suggest that we are doing a disservice to our students when we allow academia to become overly politicized.
